A shade is a darker value with black added to the color. The more black added, the darker the shade. The more white added, the lighter the tint. You might be referring to tone .If you have 99 parts yellow to one part blue , you will have a very ,very yellow green tone. The more color you add to another color, the more it starts to become that color. 99 parts of yellow for example added to one part blue will give you a color that is almost yellow, or a very yellowish green tone.
