ok, for christmas i got a lava lamp, so its not that old. Well my friend thought it would be funny to let it cool upside down, so now the wax is stuck 2 the top!! i tried letting it sit in hot water, all i accomplished was scolding my hands.. i was told to take of the cap and push the wax, thus un sticking it, but i don't want to do that unless it's the only way.. Thanks!!
I 4got to mention, i left the lamp on for 2 nights in a row, and nothing really happemed. i think like maybe half an inch fell, but i was told its not goos to leave it on for that long..
this is a tough one, try running submerging in very hot water upright in a tall container so that the wax is covered along with the whole bottle, a good sized crock pot should do it if you can't let it stand upright lay it down in the pot let the water get hot, or you can remove the lid and try pushing it, if you do so make sure you can seal it back get a cork from a wine bottle or something so the liquid doesn't dry up, or better yet tell your friend its his and to go buy a new one for you.

buy a lava lamp if a lava lamps a little misty what can you do?
i recently bought a lava lamp used that arrived a little mistier than my other one. any idea what you should do in these instances ?
im not a lava lamp expert , i only just started to collect them . so any advice would be helpful.

There is a way to "shock" a lava lamp back into shape, doesn't always work. Turn it on an get it just a bit warmer than it should be (insulate it a bit), then unplug it and let it cool completely, and most importantly SLOWLY (wrap it in a towel to cool, for hours). Do this a few times and it will cause the wax to become more fluid from the extra heat, combined with the extended cooling/settling time will cause the free floating wax bits to slowly bond to the bigger pieces.
Don't abuse this process. Three or so times should do it. If you way over heat it or do this way too many times it will cause the wax to lose cohesion and bond with the surrounding water.
Never shake a hot Lava Lamp.
