Plasma motion Good plasma television in the sales?
What would be a good plasma television to go for in the sales and try get at a discount i.e.. not too much money?
Is 1080p essential or would 720 be good enough? I've heard that 720 may be better for sports and high motion or action than 1080p? Not sure the truth of that. If I am connecting Blu Ray and Sky HD would I need full HD television? I am guessing that 720p sets would play SD television better than 1080p?
I've never really been impressed with LCD screens they look cheap, the colours look over saturated and fake, and I always see compression artifacts all over the place from the playback I've seen of SD Sky on HD LCD screens. I think the plasma screens look more natural and probably better for sports and action films that I like to watch a lot of?
If you have any suggestions of which Plasma screens to take a look at I'd appreciate it. I don't want to have anything too gigantic. I think I'd be happy with a 37" screen size. Thanks for any advice.
Almost all LCD televisions above 40 inches are now 1080p. That's not the case with plasma however. But you are correct, plasma gives better picture quality overall, everything from upscaling and contrast to viewing angle and color fidelity is done better than LCD.
Plasma televisions start at 42 inches. Panasonic is the way to go, although LG and Samsung also make good plasmas. Sanyo is now owned by Panasonic, so their newer plasmas are good too. Avoid any other brand plasma (except for Pioneer).
Resolution doesn't make much of a difference in terms of motion, and 720p should be adequate on a 42 inch set. However, if you plan on hooking up Blu-Ray, you might want to go with a 1080p set to take full advantage of the increased resolution of Blu-Ray.
Can my new Samsung plasma do that weird 120HZ thing that LED's and LCD's do?
I've seen those LCD and LED tv's that do that strange thing where there's no motion blur and I think that is called 120HZ Auto-motion plus. You know where it looks like everything is a home video or something? Any ways I've just bought a pn50b860 tv and want to know if that will be able to do that do. Thanks for the help!
A 600 HZ Sub-field drive has nothing to do with the feature you are asking about. 60 HZ refresh TVs use a 3:2 Cinema Pull-down feature to play movies, which are filmed at 24 frames per second. On a HDTV, with 60 Hz refreh rates, the use of a 3:2 Cinema pull-down produces Motion Judder. 120 Hz refresh rates eliminate Motion Judder through the use of a 5:5 pull-down technique.
600 Hz plasma TVs are still essentially 60 Hz refresh rates. If a plasma TV uses the older 3:2 Cinema pull-down techniques, then these TVs will produce Motion Judder. The Samsung PN50B650Y2F and PN58B650Y2F models DO support a feature Samsung has labeled "Cinema Smooth. This feature replaces the 3:2 Cinema pull-down technique and does produce a silky smooth motion without Judder that you have referenced in your question above.
Additional Details: Cinema Smooth operation does require the use of a Blu Ray DVD player with 24p (24 frames per second) enabled & attached via a HDMI cable.
You can verify and enable this feature on your B860 in the Picture Menu settings under "Advanced Settings". There you will select "Cinema Smooth" under the "Film Mode" options.
lava lamp works Why won't my lava lamp work anymore?
The lava in my lava lamp doesn't move anymore. I've had it for a few years and I use it a lot. It used to work and move, but now it just sits at the bottom. Could it be the light dying? How do I replace it??
Thanks
Yeah, just any of your mates are handy with mending things to do it for you, it should not be a big job as it will just be the heating element, ie the bulb which has blown. If worse comes to worse just take it to a local hardware store and act all "I don't have a clue how to do this" and they will probably do it for free.
I've recently brought a new bulb for my lava lamp because the last one blew (It blew about a year ago, only recently have I got it back out again)
Its the right bulb and everything, I've had it on for like 5 hours now and the wax has all melted, when I tip it upside down it breaks up and moves about. But then it just all settles at the bottom again and does nothing, the wax isnt moving up and down like it should be. The bottom of the lamp is really hot too so its not too cold for it to move around.
Any ideas?
Change the light bulb to a higher watt. the higher the better.
